The Enneagram is a system that explores the “why” behind our personalities and is characterised into nine different ego structures.
Basically, the Enneagram asks us, “What is my core fear?” and “What is my core motivation?”
The word Enneagram comes from the Greek words ennea or “nine” and gram or “something written or drawn” and refers to the nine points on the Enneagram symbol. The nine different Enneagram types, identified as numbers One through Nine, reflect distinct habits of thinking, feeling, and behaving, with each type connected to a unique path of development.
The Enneagram also describes the nine different lenses from which we view ourselves and the world, giving us the language to understand ourselves and others better.
With the Enneagram, we obtain a better understanding of our type’s unique insights (and blindspots), thus learning to grow compassion towards ourselves and to see others with greater love. Here, I’ll highlight the core motivation(s) and core fear(s) of each type then give a small insight into the inner world of each type:
